This is Bo's main project for his MA Photography Programme 24/25 in LCC(UAL). In publishing pathway, he made his queer self-portrait into a delicated self-published book. It reflects the artist’s experience of growing up queer in East Asia, where limited sex education and low public awareness of gender and sexual diversity often led to confusion, fear, and self-suppression.
After moving to London in 2024, he continued the project. Exposure to a more visible queer culture reshaped how he understood those earlier experiences. Through self-portraiture, the book reconstructs and re-stages scenes from adolescence, returning to memories that were previously overlooked and asking what makes visibility possible. In this process, the “room” shifts from a shelter shaped by repression into a space for re-seeing and re-imagining. By combining the roles of photographer, subject, and spectator, the work turns vulnerability into a quiet form of resistance and a reclaiming of visibility.
